How Smarter Contact pricing works

Smarter Contact runs a hybrid model: a tiered subscription plus usage fees for almost everything you do. There are two separate product lines - Messaging Plans (SMS plus voicemail drops) and Calling Plans (the power dialer) - each with its own Starter, Pro and Elite ladder at the same $199/$399/$499 sticker prices, plus committed-use Elite Plus tiers from $799 to $1,799/mo. Core plans are billed quarterly or yearly only; monthly billing exists only on Elite Plus. Every price below was read directly from smartercontact.com/pricing on July 30, 2026.

On pay-as-you-go messaging plans you pay the subscription plus roughly 2 to 3 cents per text and per calling minute, and 2 to 2.5 cents per delivered voicemail drop - and drops are not available on Starter at all. Elite Plus tiers bundle 20,000 to 100,000 texts and cut per-unit rates to 1.3 to 1.5 cents. Skip tracing is metered on top at roughly $0.07 to $0.15 per hit depending on plan.

Smarter Contact pricing plans (as of July 2026)

Starter (Messaging) is $199/mo billed quarterly (about $597 upfront per quarter) or $169/mo billed yearly, with 1 seat, a 2,500-sends-per-month cap, $0.03 per text and per calling minute - and no voicemail drops. There is no month-to-month option on Starter, Pro, or Elite at all; quarterly is the shortest cadence.

Pro (Messaging) is $399/mo billed quarterly or $339/mo yearly, and is the first tier that includes voicemail drops, at $0.025 per delivered drop plus $0.025 per text and per minute.

Elite (Messaging) is $499/mo billed quarterly or $419/mo yearly with 3 seats, unlimited campaign volume, and $0.02 per text, minute, and delivered drop.

Elite Plus runs $799 to $1,799/mo on monthly billing (the only tiers that offer it), bundling 20,000 to 100,000 texts with overage and drops at $0.013 to $0.015 per unit - and cheaper quarterly ($759 to $1,709/mo) and yearly ($669 to $1,499/mo) cadences exist on the same tiers.

Calling Plans (the power dialer line) mirror the $199/$399/$499 ladder with 5 to 20 dialing lines and $0.01 to $0.02 per minute; skip tracing on calling plans runs $0.10 to $0.15 per hit.

Add-ons stack: phone numbers $2 to $5/mo each, extra seats $99 to $199/mo, skip tracing $0.07 to $0.10 per hit on messaging plans.

Pricing and plan names change often, so confirm the current numbers on Smarter Contact's own site before you buy. The figures above were checked in July 2026.

The math, worked out

What Smarter Contact really costs per month

An REI team sending 10,000 texts a month on Pro

The advertised $399 is under two-thirds of the real monthly spend at this volume - and 10,000/mo is exactly where their own yearly-billing table caps Pro.

  • Platform: $399/mo, charged as $1,197 upfront per quarter
  • Usage: 10,000 texts x $0.025 = $250, prepaid into the usage wallet
  • Real total: ~$649/mo (~6.5 cents per text all-in), before phone numbers at $4/mo each

2,000 ringless voicemail drops a month

Starter cannot send voicemail drops at all, so the entry point for RVM is the $399/mo Pro plan.

  • Pro: $399 + 2,000 drops x $0.025 = $449/mo - about 22 cents per delivered drop effective
  • Elite: $499 + 2,000 x $0.02 = $539/mo (~27 cents effective)
  • At modest RVM volume the mandatory subscription is ~9-13x the per-drop cost itself

An Elite Plus 20k month, all-in

Even the committed tier lands near $950 once the metered extras are added.

  • $799 platform (includes 20,000 texts) + 10 numbers x $2.75 + 1,000 skip traces x $0.085 + 2,000 RVM drops x $0.015 = ~$941.50
  • Used fully, the bundled texts work out to ~4 cents each - well above the $0.015 overage rate on the card
  • Compare: VoiceDrop starts at $95/mo, monthly billing, pay only for delivered voicemails

Costs to watch before you commit

The headline number is not the bill: core plans are quoted monthly but charged quarterly upfront, and the published refund policy (dated April 2025 in their help center) is no refunds on subscriptions, usage fees, or unused prepaid credits - leftover credits are held until you reactivate.

The 7-day free trial auto-converts and charges the card on its last day unless canceled; since early 2026 the trial runs in simulation mode, so no real messages are sent while you evaluate. A BBB complaint reports a mid-trial charge that was not refunded.

Prices moved in 2026: between the February and July versions of their pricing page, yearly rates rose about 13% (from $149/$299/$379 to $169/$339/$419 per month) and per-minute calling rates rose on every tier, while RVM per-drop rates fell. Confirm current numbers on smartercontact.com before you commit.

Their own quarterly and yearly pricing tables disagree on Pro's limits (unlimited vs 10,000 texts/month) and seat counts (1 vs 2) as of July 30, 2026 - get the terms in writing.

Yes - a 7-day free trial on all plans, but it auto-converts: the card is charged the full subscription on the trial's last day unless canceled first (their own pricing FAQ), and card details are required to start. Since early 2026 the trial is a simulation mode - campaigns and replies are simulated rather than really sent - with your contact groups and templates carried over on upgrade.

A more capable alternative to Smarter Contact

VoiceDrop starts at $95/month for around 1,000 ringless voicemails and bills only for successful deliveries, with AI voice cloning, an AI Inbound Agent, two-way SMS, and SOC 2 Type II certification included rather than sold as add-ons. If you are weighing cost against capability, that bundle often delivers more booked meetings per dollar than a lower headline per-drop rate alone.

FAQ

Smarter Contact pricing FAQs

Starter (Messaging) is $199/mo billed quarterly (about $597 upfront per quarter) or $169/mo billed yearly, with 1 seat, a 2,500-sends-per-month cap, $0.03 per text and per calling minute - and no voicemail drops. There is no month-to-month option on Starter, Pro, or Elite at all; quarterly is the shortest cadence. Higher tiers scale with volume. Always verify the latest pricing on Smarter Contact's site, as plans change.
VoiceDrop starts at $95/month, includes AI voice cloning and an AI Inbound Agent at no extra charge, bills only for successful deliveries, and gives every new account $20 in free credits to test first. See VoiceDrop vs Smarter Contact for the full comparison.
Yes - 7 days on all plans, with card details required up front. Two things their own FAQ and help center disclose: the card is charged the full subscription on the trial's last day unless you cancel first, and since early 2026 the trial runs in simulation mode - campaigns and replies are simulated rather than actually sent, with 10DLC registration hidden until you upgrade. It is a UI tour, not a deliverability test; you cannot verify real delivery rates during the trial.
Because Smarter Contact's core Starter, Pro and Elite plans are quoted per month but billed quarterly upfront - $199/mo means one $597 charge every three months. Monthly billing only exists on the Elite Plus tiers at $799/mo and up. This was read from smartercontact.com/pricing in July 2026; confirm before you buy.
Their published refund policy says no: subscriptions, usage fees, and unused prepaid credits are all non-refundable, with leftover credits held until you reactivate a subscription. BBB complaints include disputed mid-trial charges. If billing flexibility matters, weigh that against platforms with monthly billing and free trials.
